Licensure for CACs

Regulations are being finalized for a license for which some CACs might be eligible. This license (Licensed Professional Counselor) falls under the Department of State, Board of Social Workers, Marriage & Family Therapists and Professional Counselors.

Over the past months, PCB has worked for inclusion of CACs with appropriate Master’s degrees, to be eligible for this license. While there are many requirements that one must meet for eligibility, some of those include: a 48 credit Master’s degree in a related field (NOTE: a 36 credit or above Master’s degree is also acceptable along with continuing education credits to make up the difference to at 48 credit degree); holding a national certification in your area (such as the CAC); taking and passing a national exam in your area of expertise; a residency requirement; and an employment requirement.

Since the regulations are not yet final, we have no assurances that the CAC credential and one of our examinations will remain as acceptable for the license. We remain hopeful and will continue to monitor the progress of this license.
